The Sun

The sun came into my room
and it was so bright
I couldn’t see
and I forgot where I
put my sunglasses.
But everything was so white
they probably wouldn’t help.
So I tried to find the door,
to get away from the light,
but I was walking
for a long time
and couldn’t find anything.
Then I tripped
over my shoes and noticed
that my feet were bare
and the floor was
warm and soft like
beach sand only smooth,
and I wanted to go home,
to find you
because you are always
like the floor,
and I just wanted you
all around me so
I could be safe again.

And then I woke up
and you were holding me,
with your arms around my back,
and my cheek was warm
against your breast
and you were moving gently
back and forth
and whispering my name,
and then I knew
that you were the dream
I never wanted to be over,
so I might sleep
in your arms forever.
